The abstract images of the I Ching Oracle (usually called "hexagrams") symbolize all of the related and interacting aspects of reality. In the following excerpts from actual Psychic Readings, the images of the I Ching are discussed.

Opposition

We have a very clear sense of the weakening of your relationship in recent weeks. In some ways, it is a fragile thing, requiring care and vigilance at all times if you are to protect its positive potential for the future. The nature of your conflicts with each other is depicted very well in the first image that we have drawn for you today from the Chinese oracle, namely Opposition. This is an image which draws attention to the conflict of wills, and so issues of power and control should be considered in evaluating your approach to your boyfriend, and his to you. In general, the counsel of the oracle is to avoid, above all, proceeding in a brusque fashion, for that would only increase the existing opposition. Instead, it suggests that you should limit yourself to producing gradual effects in small ways. By this means, success can still be expected, because the situation is such that opposition does not yet preclude all agreement. Focus, in other words, on the areas of agreement.

The image of Opposition actually confirms our judgment of your eventual success. For example, in the first verse that is highlighted specifically for you in this Reading, the oracle says, “Remorse disappears.” But it goes on to give you a key insight into the manner in which you can protect the good potential that exists. It says, “If you lose your horse, do not run after it; it will come back of its own accord.” What this means is that when opposition begins to manifest itself, you must not try to force the situation to conform to your immediate desires, for by so doing you would only achieve the contrary. This should answer your question about “backing off” and giving your boyfriend “time to himself.” Of course, you want to handle this with delicacy, and not overdo it. You want to do it in such a way as not to compromise his understanding of your love for him, and without failing to reassure him of your loyalty.

Your mutual estrangement is to some degree the result of a kind of misunderstanding. This is the meaning of another verse that is highlighted for you by today’s Reading. It says, “Isolated through opposition, one sees one’s companion as a pig covered with dirt, as a wagon full of devils. First one draws a bow against him, then one lays the bow aside. He is not a robber; he will woo at the right time. As one goes, rain falls, then good fortune.” You can see how directly this speaks to your fears of being made into a “human doormat.” In this part of the image, you are depicted as misjudging your best friend, taking him to be “unclean,” or in the exaggerated words of the oracle, a dirty pig. There is something threatening about the situation and your vulnerability, which is why the oracle pictures a wagon full of robbing devils.

The important thing, however, is the portent of reconciliation in time. In the natural development of this situation, there will be an eventual fulfillment of your boyfriend’s true love for you. Thus the tension will be relieved. The oracle commonly refers to the release of tension as a rainfall. Union resolves tension, just as falling rain relieves the sultriness preceding a thunderstorm. Then all goes well, for just when opposition reaches its climax it changes over to its antithesis.

This is why, the image of Opposition is in the process of changing into the image of Duration. As we have pointed out to you in the past, the time element is the crucial factor that you always have to be keeping in mind in this situation. As the central verse in Duration says, “The superior woman stands firm and does not change her direction.” There is no doubt in our minds that you are being led to persevere in this relationship.

A great degree of wisdom is required of you under these circumstances. You have to be able to separate the transitory from the permanent. Focus on the silent counsel that speaks within you, for we have no doubt that the advice contained in this Reading conforms to the urgings of that voice, which speaks to you from your own higher consciousness, telling you of the rightness of your love for your boyfriend.
