Gathering Together
The image
of Gathering Together describes, as you might
guess, situations in which people gather
together. More to the point, it describes the
principles on which good and healthy gatherings
are predicated. Not every gathering together is a
good one, as the image clearly discloses. Thus,
in one of the verse, that is highlighted
specifically for you by today’s Reading from
the image of Gathering Together, the oracle says,
“Gathering together amid sighs. Nothing that
would further. Going is without blame. Slight
humiliation.”
This
verse describes precisely that aspect of the
image in which loneliness is encountered, and so
it is worth considering how loneliness very often
leads to impatience in matters of love. It is not
easy to be alone when Nature herself is calling
out for the blissful satisfactions of gathering
together. You are at that time of life when these
feelings are very great indeed. The trouble is,
however, that these feelings can exhaust the
spirit, causing a certain kind of weakness sets
in. Desire gets the upper-hand over insight and
foresight, and the results are often needless
entanglement. You know how this works of course.
But in
the other verse that is highlighted specifically
for you by today’s Reading from the image of
Gathering Together, the oracle says, “If in
gathering together one has position, this brings
no blame. If there are some who are not yet
sincerely in the work, sublime and enduring
perseverance is needed. Then remorse
disappears.” You see, the basis of your
feelings are what the oracle calls
“position.” You are, as I have said, in
the position of being in the prime of life and
full of love. There is no blame, says the oracle,
in the feelings that are roused in you by your
new friend. But more than merely natural
compatibility is required for the kind of
gathering together that you are seeking, and
which, I should add, you are destined to find.
Then, the
oracle tells you that someone is “not yet in
the work.” In other words, “it takes
two to tango,” and you haven’t met your
true and best tango partner YET. That is why
“sublime and enduring perseverance is
needed.” You need to be strong to have such
perseverance and patience. And, above all, you
have to use strength “to control
weakness.”
