The abstract images of the I Ching Oracle (usually called "hexagrams") symbolize all of the related and interacting aspects of reality. In the following excerpts from actual Psychic Readings, the images of the I Ching are discussed.

Development

Listen to the central verse that is highlighted specifically for you by today’s Reading from the image of Development. In it the oracle says, “Thus the superior person abides in dignity and virtue, in order to improve the mores.” You can be sure that your actions will stand as an example to others and this will also have a very positive effect in the eventual outcome of this challenging and uncomfortable situation.

Several other verses have been highlighted for you, and you may see how they describe your actual situation. In this image, the symbol of a wild goose is used throughout. Its wildness conveys the idea of natural truth – it’s only in civilization that people behave the way your boss is behaving. You need to preserve your own wildness in this respect. Don’t let fear, and the temptation of ill-wrought gains tempt YOU!

In the first of these verses, the oracle says, “The wild goose gradually draws near the shore. The young son is in danger. There is talk. No blame.” Of course, the “young son,” is the start-up business to which you understandably feel some loyalty.

Then, the oracle says, “The wild goose gradually draws near the plateau. The man goes forth and does not return. The woman carries a child but does not bring it forth. Misfortune. It furthers one to fight off robbers.” Thus, there is sterile, useless, and futile effort involved in this situation. Everybody is working so hard, and for what? So that a mediocre product can be born on the market? This is of course an example of misfortune. But realize that there are dangers posed for your own reputation, and here the word “innocence” must be uppermost in your mind.

The diplomatic delicacy required of you is implied by the next verse, which says, “The wild goose gradually draws near the tree. Perhaps it will find a flat branch. No blame.” Listen to a great commentary on this verse. “A tree is not a suitable place for a wild goose. But if it is clever, it will find a flat branch on which it can get a footing. A man’s life too [and a woman’s], in the course of its development, often brings him [YOU] into inappropriate situations, in which he finds it difficult to hold his own without danger. Then it is important to be sensible and yielding. This enables him to discover a safe place in which life can go on, although he may be surrounded by danger.”

Put away your fears. Be innocent, but clever. These are not contradictions. This experience is not meant to be disillusioning to you in your larger sense of life. The bright colors in life require dark shades around them to make them stand out in contrast. Every painting has light AND dark features. In this case, the meaning is carried by the light and innocent colors and they are ones that you are painting into the scene. Everything is going to work out fine.
