The Two of Cups

In the traditional Waite-Rider Tarot Deck, the image of Two Cups bears the emblem of the Caduceus, the same as used in reference to medical practice in the present day (see for example, JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association). In Greek legend it was the rod carried by the god, Hermes, entwined with serpents and sometimes winged. It symbolized peace and prosperity, commerce, power and wisdom. In the Tarot, its presence signals health and harmony, especially as these are manifested in relationships between people. Often, it portends a close friendship or marriage. After disputes, it can signal a truce or agreement. In working situations, it heralds a time of close communication and cooperation. Two Cups usually reflects a strong attraction between compatible people or business entities.

One of clients asked about a new relationship he had found with an intriguing and beautiful woman to whom he had recently been introduced by mutual friends. In such a case, the appearance of Two Cups is always a very favorable sign. It was even more favorable in this instance, being accompanied by a variety of other images with very positive portents of success and happiness. It is very frequent examples of this kind that cause one constantly to reflect with astonishment on the very clear and direct communication that the Tarot easily establishes with her readers.
