The so-called "Type A Personality" may possibly welcome the appearance of this image, but most other people are likely to greet it with a groan. The image of Ten Wands portends a period of increased responsibility, arduous labor, unshirkable duty, serious accountability, physical and psychological exhaustion, and heavy lifting in every figurative and practical sense. Depending on the context, the image may be a warning about taking on more than you can handle, and sometimes about taking on an excessive degree of blame for a difficult situation. The emotional concomitant of this image is depression, characterized by a plague of doubts about a better and easier future. In one of our Readings, the reversal of the image of Ten Wands constituted a very positive portent for the future, signaling relief after a period of extremely hard work. Our client had spent several years proving himself at work under very stressful conditions for a firm that had hired him directly out of law school. We had done several Readings for him during this time, encouraging him to approach his work methodically, to maintain self-confidence, to set aside time to meditate in peace and quiet as often as possible, to expect a just reward of appreciative recognition, and in general to believe in his ultimate success with the firm. Finally, in another Reading, we were very pleased to see the image of Ten Wands Reversed, which promised a degree of relief for our client. In fact, soon afterward, he had a much deserved promotion, rising to a position in which he was able to rely on a new junior and probationary associate to do a good bit of the grunt work that he himself had been doing previously. |
